Used to easly get through the day, now flat after lunch time. The only thing that has changed recently that I can think of was a software update.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I think I should factory reset it but OMG now I rely on it for 2FA that would be a pain!

My S6's battery life shortened a lot about a 8-10 months ago. I put it down to end of battery life, and replaced the phone.

Hi Frank, was hoping to avoid the spend but that was definitely a cause on the back of my mind - phone life is pretty poor for a thousand dollar device, and no battery replacement option :-\

I will go through all the apps and try to uninstall any I don't need and see if that helps.

Wasn't an upgrade to android 8 by any chance.

My brand new htc 10 (warantee replacement last week) with minimal apps in stalled has rubbish battery life. I upgraded to 8 before copying settings accross. Struggles to last the day. 70% reduction from 0700 to 5pm with no use.

Looking at battery stats its stuck on "Mobile network standby" ie I've been asleep most of the day with the battery in extreme standby mode and 38% of the battery has been used by MNS.

_Marked_ change from the previous phone which I had until 3 weeks ago. ie same house/work place.

Googling suggests this standby issue linked to Oreo without any real solutions...

Maybe not the battery, as for some reason if I close all apps apart from Ampere it is sitting there eating between 150mA-500mA doing nothing much else. It's only a 2550mAh rated battery so no wonder it's running flat with that current drain.

8:46am and battery down to 65% already.

When is the last time you did a factory reset? On android phones i tend to do this every few months, it really speeds things up and can greatly improve battery life.

I added Life360 recently. It doesn't show much power use in settings but when it's installed I get 20% power use overnight. When I remove it the power use drops to zero. It's such as useful app for the family I keep it anyway.

Hi Echoe,

Basically never, and have been too scared to do so as I rely on some installed apps, mainly a few different 2FA apps, for my day to day access to customers' remote systems. I'm not sure if I factory reset how hard it would be to get these going again... <gulp>

I can imagine it would be a hog but looks useful. On our kids phones I can find them with google's 'find my phone' tool as I own the google accounts, but it is a little clunky and the youngest one constantly fails to keep his phone charged and on so I still can't keep track of the little bugger.

On my wife's Moto G5 it uses virtually no battery overnight. It's my P9 that doesn't get updates that uses a lot of batteries. Once Android 8 / Oreo is out of beta I might risk bricking the phone and do the whole unlock / update thing to see if it helps.

FYI the one doesn't identify any app as a hog and the screen is the largest power consumer: The 5h to flat estimate sounds about right as it's been going flat by mid afternoon.
