Going to give my wife a trial of Android. Currently on iphone 8 plus with cracked bottom glass.

I think she has a lot of "notes" on iOS notes app. Is there a notes app that is free and available on both platforms? If there is I suppose is there a way to transfer the notes across?

We use google calender for our planner so that's taken care of.

Also she likes how the iphone can make her photos in to a short video clip - is there a way to do that on Android?

Trying to set up the Huawei Mate 20 as best as I can to make the transition/trial as smooth as possible.

Not sure if it'll sort your notes issue, but my son moved from an iOS device to an Android and he used an app called {something like} iOS to Android....

Basically got everything across to the Droid except exclusive apps - then he just downloaded Apple Music to the Droid for his music library.

gehenna:

https://www.android.com/switch/

Thanks.

I don't want to use google contacts to back up because the last time I used Androids, google contacts stored everyone who ever emailed me or I had ever emailed as my contacts. So at that time I had about 100 real contacts, but google contacts said I had 1000 contacts. I bet it's going to be about 10,000 nowadays.

I think I'm good as I know that there are third party apps that can store contacts (hmm didn't I say I didn't want to use third party .... !!!)

I moved in very early on to ensure we didn't use exclusive Apps (not just apple, but 3rd party boutique apps too) because those things are either non transferable or unreliable (eg if they stop updating when ios went 64 bit for example) so I have very little invested, but I do know that she uses Apple "Notes" a lot.

I was thinking of things like notability, evernote, all those cross platform apps with "note" on them ... ;p

Just one catch, they need to be free and not going to suddenly go away. So I'm thinking - microsoft, google, would be my best bet.

Does she use a Gmail account? The Notes app on iOS can access notes there if you have a logged in google account. I would think you could move them under gmail and then access them on the droid via the gmail app or otherwise.

Depending on the droid i find the 'notes' app is often specific to the manufacturer, they are not all the same.

Thanks, yes we use gmail.

ANd yeah, I'm not planning to use anything Huawei specific ... coz the next phone may or may not be Huawei ... it's just that this one has 4 pretty good stills cameras. A shame the video isn't as good as iphone but oh well. maybe next time. the 8 plus takes amazing 4k 60 fps video. so this trial may or may not take off, let's see.

In Google Contacts you have your contacts, that you add manually, plus "other contacts" which as far as I can see are only used for Gmail auto-complete. If you did a migration it might pull all of them across.

For notes, you might like to try Google Keep.

I think there are a few ways to export messages from iMessage on iOS. From there it's easy as android has many sms/messaging apps that can take different formats.

From Android to iOS however is a bit more restricted. Currently the only reliable way of importing into the iMessage app is to use the migration app made by Apple on the Google play store. This'll migrate everything on the droid onto a fresh/new iPhone, photos, video etc.

Afaik there are no other options to reliably import sms into an already setup iphone.

When I was migrating from iOS to Android I used this guide for transferring messages.
