Any suggestions on a new phone? My Nexus 6P died today, unexpectedly so I was not looking for an upgrade. Stuck in the reboot cycle wont charge enough to start... Not sure what to get now.

The new Google pixels are not in NZ and besides that look like ass IMO. What are my android options? Samsung or Huawei? I had an Samsung S3 before the 6P but didn't like the slow update cycle of the Samsung and it was quickly outdated. Also now weary of Huawei and their batteries, a phone that works ok today will it be able to last 3/4 years?

These could just be my bad experiences with the devices so things may have changed since the phone I have owned in the past...

Quick google of phones I see that there are

- Samsung Galaxy Note 9
- Samsung Galaxy 9 or 9+
- Huawei P20 Pro
- Huawei Mate 20 Pro - a bit pricey that one..

Any others I may have missed?

Some pros cons for each would be greatly appreciated

I'd add Oneplus 6T to that list, which is what I am looking to buy soon.

It's available from PB Tech, although still a parallel imported model.

Nokia 7 Plus

excellent battery life, android one so quick updates, big screen and solid build quality, good camera's also.

I would agree if you are Android fan get a phone that is Android One. This is a guarantee that the phone is plain Android as delivered by Google and will get updates as soon as they are released. Google guarantee it will receive the next three updates of Android after the phones build date so if it is a 2018 phone you will get updates ujp to 2021 at least

Nokia 7 Plus
Nexus 6P 32Gb
Nexus 6 Phone
Nexus 5 Phone
Nexus 7 2013 Tablet
Samsung TAB A 8"
Samsung TAB A 10"

& many Windows laptops, Desktops etc

I am in the same boat looking for a new phone going from S7 Edge

I was quite keen on Oneplus 6T but reading the news of drastic battery drain has got me questioning myself about getting it

Oppo R17 Pro has same specs and shape as well with the tear drop notch

S9+ is also an option though

Have a look at the Nokia range, there's no flagships atm, but look up the Nokia 7.1, 6.1, 8.1 and the various plus models. They're all android one (except the Nokia 8, tho it has gotten a neutered version of Pie)

If you can wait then Samsung S10 will be out soon. But if you need an android phone today then Note 9 is the way to go.

If you want a phone which gets updates and can get the battery serviced then have you considered the iPhone XR?

Oldest iPhone which Apple provides software and hardware support is a 5s and that came out in 2013.

Apple does update its older phones but not all features go to the older models

have seen the leaked images for S10 but not keen on a punch hole camera in the screen

Some still recommend the 6 ahead of the 6T - and that was before this battery issue with the 6T. Same processor, similar performance but $150 or so cheaper.

Personally, I'm not worried by the absence of an in-screen fingerprint reader - I'd rather give up on that than lose a headphone socket, plus I use the facial recognition unlocking most of the time anyway.

I am not worried about the battery drain issue and will get one soon despite of the issue because I am confident Oneplus will release a firmware update to fix the issue if the issue is in fact widespread, given their timely update record.

BTW - Oppo R17 Pro has a different CPU, being a SD660 or 710 off the top of my head so not quite exactly the same spec.

Huawei's battery life is amazing, the charge rate too.

If multitasking or peak rate LTE is your thing, i'd go Samsung though.

I thought so too but the wider notch on the 6 kind of puts me off 6

I went for the Note9.. best one yet..

I've tried the alternatives and I like them.. but I've had more success with sammy..

Also.. their warranty seems to be fairly easy when you got issues..
