Hey guys, I'm having an issue with using my phone to pay at Paywave enabled outlets.

I'm an ANZ customer and have a P20 Pro phone, Neither of those things changed and recently and I used to be able to pay up until about last week. Not sure what changed although it looks like the ANZ app may have had an update.

When I tap my phone, nothing happens (phone doesn't vibrate/react or anything)

Has anyone had a similar issue?

Note: if I change the default payment app on my phone (like to the ASB app), the phone picks it up so I think that rules out hardware failure.

Note 2: I have installed the Google Pay app (since ASB is now seemingly using Google Pay) but that didn't change anything.

ANZ use Google Pay and moved to that from their ANZ goMoney app which used HCE last year. The issue will have nothing to do with their app as that has nothing to do with NFC payments now.

What card do you have selected as your default card under Google Pay?

My ANZ credit card is configured as the default card in the Google Pay app.

But I swear this was working last week for me on the same phone whilst I didn't have Google Pay installed.

Google Pay has been required since ANZ moved from their own HCE to Google Pay last year. It couldn't possibly work without Google Pay installed and configured.

Then I'm confused because I swear Google Pay wasn't on my phone before I installed it this morning. And there would be no reason for me to ahve uninstalled it

Unless for some reason you never migrated last year when the goMoney app told everybody to move to Google Pay and the old HCE app did continue to work and has now been switched off.

Crazy thing is I got it to work again just now by uninstalling both ANZ goMoney and Google Pay. Yes, I had neither of those apps on my phone and it started working again.

I have resintalled goMoney and it is still working so not sure what that's about.... Might try and resintall Google Pay later to see if that breaks it.

This is getting better... reinstalling Google Pay on my phone made it stop working (can't do payments, nothing happens).

Uninstalling it made it work again... I'm really confused now...

GoMoney wallet doesn't exist anymore - it has been fully switched off.

Google Pay is the only way to go on Android now. Try re-provisioning your cards, sounds like something is a little iffy here. Also ensure your GoMoney app is fully up to date (currently at version 6.16.283) and Google Pay is installed (as this is required - not sure how your phone is doing it without). Also ensure Google Pay is set as your payment app in the NFC settings of your phone.

When I got my P20 and tried to set it up, it had quirks too.

The ANZ app google pay section literally spawned and said setup your card here, and did half the process. But would error out using it as if the transaction was blocked. It was if half the legacy wallet was still somehow starting.

It wasn't until I uninstalled and separately installed google pay and setup the card outside ANZ that it seemed to work.

One giveaway is in google pay it had 2 cards showing (and still appears to) with the same details, 1 saying setup contactless - but it doesn't display the card face.

This! Thanks @oblivian I seemd to be habing the same issue.

I re-provisioned my card and that got rid of the second one but for the life of me it still didn;t work when Google Pay was installed.

Are you able to tell me how you managed to get things working?

I'd like to have both ANZ goMoney and Google Pay install and be able to make NFC payments.

I can't actually remember :P

It worked as late as 2 weekends ago, but not tried since. I think I just made sure the one with the picture was default (I've left the 2nd one there) and in NFC settings ensure it was enabled (and google pay as the default app, not ANZ). And ignored the ANZ app.
