When I find an answer to a question I have asked, I like to post it as a service to others.
I use Android a lot for streaming but I do not (want to) have a phone. This causes problems with some apps, which are almost all written for phones or tablets. Many require touch screens for navigation, or you can’t scroll past the first page. Unfortunately, I don’t have any usable Android device with a touch screen.
With many sites that I can otherwise access, I can’t see most of the content because I can’t scroll to it with a mouse or keyboard. This is very frustrating and I have been looking for a solution for a long time. At last, I have found one.
The solution is a great free app available on Google Play called Button Mapper. This is a very extensive remapper that lets you perform almost any action with any input device. The scroll functions are not obvious and you have to drill down to find them by choosing a custom button installation, and then search far down the list until they appear. I installed them on the remote’s volume control since I control volume by other means.
I have tried many other apps but nothing has ever been able to emulate touch screen functions. This one does, at least as far as scrolling and taps are concerned. It seems to work perfectly. This is something that probably won’t impress phone owners much since navigation won’t be an issue for them, but I have wanted it for a long time and I couldn’t be happier. Maybe it will help someone else as well.
I couldn’t find my original post on this subject and the thread has probably been locked anyway, so I am posting this here for the benefit of anyone else who has run up against this.
