so there is a game i want but only runs on android 8.0 or higher my friend has a similar phone to me and he was able to edit the build.prop file and have it now show up as android 8.0 in the setting and was able to install the games

 

my phone is rooted ive tried editing the build.prop and changing it from 7.0 to 8.0 it saves fine but does not change to 8.0 in the setting even if i reset the phone

 

what can i do?

There is a reason for this and that reason is based on features available on Android 8.0.

 

No, you can't run apps built for newer operating systems on something older. It is likely using OS features not available in the older version of Android. So, this will not work.

well when my friend changed his phone to show as 8.0 in setting the game installed and worked fine
