My mum's Nexus 5 is going a bit wonky.  So soon would be looking for a new phone for her.  I thought about a Samsung S8, but are there other phones that you suggest?  Perhaps a lower newer model?  Looking at a price around $400-500.  She is not a technical user, chat apps and Youtube with current affairs, documentaries and cooking shows etc ..   The only requirement is maybe at least 64GB storage.

Many thanks.

I know many tablets don't have phone functionality but for the uses you list a tablet might be a better option. Had you considered a tablet with phone functionality?

You'll get an S9 for $500 now.

The S10 2 for 1 deals resulted in new S10's selling for $8-900 which, in turn, put pressure on used S9 values.

No, sorry, not new. My bad, I defaulted to thinking you were looking at a pre-owned phone since the S8 is a 2017 release.

Sub $500 brand new, I reckon it's hard to go past the 128GB Huawei Nova 3i, now selling for <$300.

She doesn't want a China phone.  Samsung A50 vs S8?

Plus one for the Samsung A50. It's a very solid mid range phone. Very happy with mine and more importantly SWMBO is happy with hers.
