I want to buy a 8GB 256GB version for the wife. I know PB have a 128 GB version, but my wife's Oneplus 5 128 GB had only about 20 GB space left, so I think 256 GB will be more future proof.

Anyone been buying Global version from AliExpress? I am thinking of get one from AliExpress.

how much of the 100gb does she use regularly? why not look at backup strategies to save space

Apparently 60 - 70GB is video shot/photos for kids. They are all backup-ed to my NAS. But I prefer hand off rather manage the wife phone nowadays, So they do adds up.

Personally I think 128 GB is plenty, but are we talking about the scenario where '128 GB is enough for everyone'? Or buying from AliExpress is not an option?

AliExpress is an option given you don't get a fake or second hand one also warranty support is going to be non-existent. You will also be hit with import tax. Why not just take a cloud storage plan with Google drive and upload it all into there?

Huge risk buying from overseas with zero warranty or support. That's assuming you get sent a legit product in the first place. If that amount of on board storage is necessary (and I don't see why it is with all the cloud storage options) then you may be better off looking at another brand/model handset.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I would recommend purchasing locally as well for warranty purposes. I use google photos and 100g plan to back up all my photos and that seems to work really well.

Totally agree with none-exist warranty or support. But I got pretty much all our smart phones from overseas, mostly from UK starting from Moto milestone out of necessity and a few Sony Xperia's as there is much more options from UK plus freebees when on sale. But my OnePlus and Xiaomi are all locals if there are good local choices here. Anyway, my points is the warranty for me is just an insurance in case something went wrong, but never been a deal breaker for us, so that's something I am comfortable with.

I don't have much experience buying from AliExpress, that's the reason I ask question here, But is fake phones from place like AliExpress a real thing? Given I will looking at goods description carefully, and consider online store reputation.

By looking at a few OnePlus 7Ts on the AliExpress store, it appears what's normally happens is they just flash the Chinese market one with Global ROM, and they will say it's a Global ROM, but some did mention that it's Chinese Phone. It might be that and the hardware is slightly different, more bands Global ones have than China one. But it should support all the major Operators regardless from what I remember. Again, it's something once I understand that I will get what I paid for, and it's not a deal breaker for me. Also looks like if I go ahead with Chinese one with Global ROM, I will get a higher spec one (256 GB) still slightly cheaper after import tax compare to local 128 GB one.

The cloud, it's getting cheaper, buy again, the standard Phone ROM size is creep up, it seems that the wife's usage just ahead of curve slightly, my preference is still prefer local storage over the cloud one as I already has NAS setup for auto backup our phones. And think about it, Google is the first major phone manufacturer decided to ditch SD card support, and now look at who is profit from provide cloud storage...

But yeah, cloud store from Google is more convenient than my own NAS solution
