We have an OPPO A5 which has had the password changed, and the owner doesn't recall the new password. Attempting to factory reset etc prompts for the phone password as well.

Is there any method to factory reset which bypasses that requirement in ColorOS (OPPO's Android)? Both "Recovery Mode" and "Wipe Data" prompt for passwords.

Attempted to do it via Google Apps as the device was managed, but that didn't work either - only available option was "Delete Account", which has been applied but did not remove the device lock.

Are mobile repair shops going to be any use or is the device effectively bricked? Wow!

Nope not really, the lock will be either google or one done by oppo.  They do this so stolen phones can't be on sold.

If the google account has now been deleted you might be able to create a new account with the same email address and see if the new password would sync, i would not expect that to work however.

There might be a dodgy way if you look on facebook market.

The only way would be to recover the users password.

Thanks both of you!

Even with the Google a/c password, there was no option presented to unlock the phone after repeatedly guessing at the code. I must have remembered this option from (much) older versions of Android; seems like it went away after 4.4?

Dodgy Facebook Market options, hecknope! But thanks all the same :)

Cheers

He did it! He remembered four digits and brute forced the remaining two using the factory reset screen which didn't introduce a 30s delay per attempt. I'm a proud parent right now :)
