I would have extreme concerns about buds at that price, or even under $100. A malfunction could blow your eardrum or cause hearing loss and other horrible things.

My son has some Skull Candy ones that are adequate.

Thanks but the single review isn't very good. Though I like how it has control buttons.

I think cable is good so the farm things don't fall off and disappear, and it allows for mic and control buttons.

But duration of use, easy to charge, and connects well with iPhone would be most important. I'd like to say sound quality but wife doesn't care one bit :(

My wife likes the Xiaomi true wireless ones fine. After a few months they started rattling, PBTech will replace when we take them in. Cost more than $20 though.

Xiaomi airdot s. That's what I use. So far been very happy with them. Only gripe I have is the signal isn't overly strong and they have a tendancy to cut out if my phones in my pocket. But in saying that all mine previous ones have done the same - probably more to do with the phone then earbuds.

Ive tried many cheap ones.

I now run two sets, Razer Hammerhead Wireless ($170) and also a cheap set like these ones;

https://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/tws-mini-bluetooth-5-0-earphone-wireless-earbuds/30467356

I specificly like these style as my ears dont agree with the ones you shove down your ear canal. A lot of the "noise isolating ones" require the little silcone bit to go in your ear canal which I find uncomfortable for any amount of time.

Both of these sets are comfortable and the sound is good. Obviously the Razer are much better quality but the others are fine for music and watching netflix (and I dont care if I break them, drop them, lose them etc).

This site does reviews of all the cheap Chinese earbuds and sorts the decent from the crap. Note that the prices are a bit higher than what most products are actually selling for.

The good news is that most of them are actually pretty alright these days. Almost anything from a brand name you recognise (and many from those you don't) will be perfectly fine.

My wife has the Anker Soundcore Liberty Neo (about $35) and they sound surprisingly good to me (that site rates them as middling), and I'm pretty fussy about audio.

Make sure you get something with AAC support if she has an iPhone.

Edit: oops, should have refreshed before replying...

Looking for a similarly cheap pair for my son, and saw that Container Door has these cheap (and quite possibly nasty?) ones available:

https://www.containerdoor.com/nz/product_listings/earbuds-with-charging-pod

It looks like the case doesn’t even have a battery, so charging only happens when the case is plugged in, so that’s a bit of a downer. (Is this how others read this listing?)

So the other ones I was wondering about were Mi Dots from Kogan or Dots 2 if they come down on sale from PB Tech, or even these other ones linked to earlier https://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/tws-mini-bluetooth-5-0-earphone-wireless-earbuds/30467356

My son (much to my chagrin) doesn’t care about audio quality, so I’m thinking battery life and robustness are probably more important, and given he’s 13 something that is suitable for not quite full-sized ears.

Any thoughts or recommendations (for no more than $50 incl shipping)? Thanks.
