For those with very old Android devices (some used for specific functions): Sign-in on Android devices running Android 2.3.7 or lower will not be allowed starting September 27, - Android Community (google.com)

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our users safe, Google will no longer allow sign-in on Android devices that run Android 2.3.7 or lower starting September 27, 2021. If you sign into your device after September 27, you may get username or password errors when you try to use Google products and services like Gmail, YouTube, and Maps.

I think 2.3 was released back when Google was still crowing about how Android is open source and free forever... yet if I understand correctly, the 'bit' that's breaking here doesn't have the source available. Go figure.

Is anyone really running something that old? What could it even do these days? Hardly be able to load a website.

We've got a couple of "burner" devices we use as backup for broken phones or overseas visitors with SIM locked devices.

Not being able to sync the address book will be a pain, but it won't stop the devices continuing to work as phones.

I'm personally surprised Google didn't make the cut off at Android 5+.
