Phone: Samsung Galaxy S10e

Carrier: Vodafone.

After the last couple of software updates, when the phone has restarted, I receive a barrage of texts all from the same sender. Some are ones I've previously opened and read, others I've never received until now.

I fully power down my phone every night and restart it in the morning, but this obviously isn't enough to "release" the unreceived texts, so there must be something different about the restart after an update.

My questions are:

Why aren't the texts getting to me when they are sent?

Is there a way I can mimic a post-update restart to requery the SMS server (or wherever the SMS is waiting)?

Where was the phone purchased from? I would be doing a hard reset of the handset

It came from a Spark shop a couple of years ago. It's a great phone, just this weird quirk where this one senders texts aren't handled correctly by Vodafone and/or my phone.

Have you tried another SMS program?

It is possible the messages are getting delivered, but the program isn't "pinging" you for some reason, and not displaying them. After an update the programs cache is updated and the messages appear

Is there a way to do this myself?

Gosh. I always forget this. Do you happen to know what the expiry is for Spark?

One strange thing I noticed from the OP -- do you really turn off and restart your phone every single night? May pay to just leave it on overnight so SMS can be delivered as soon as possible after its sent rather than stored on the network side. I do wonder if the network side is storing SMS sent during the period your phone was not connected and then not correctly delivering it as soon as you reconnect in the morning. There is usually a bit of a delay before stored SMS are finally delivered in my experience but not to the extent you have described so this might be a red herring.

If you do turn it off every night, maybe try leaving it on overnight for a few nights and see if the behaviour changes. This might help narrow down where the culprit might be.

Yes via the play store.

Google Messages would be my pick.

As above I would leave the phone on over night but perhaps you should silence the phone(either via sound control or setting a DnD profile) so you don't get disturbed at night if that's what you're worried about.

I use quic. They're a great ISP for techies. Use my referral I get money off my bill! You can get the setup fee waived too via this code when you order! R177510EBNVXP

Ill give it a try, but these are messages sent during the day, and only from one sender.

DnD? The only thing I get from Google is Dungeons and Dragons!

I haven't tried another SMS app as I reckoned the native one would be the least quirky. I'll try Google messages, thanks.

DnD = Do not Disturb ie silent :)

I missed the bit about it only being one sender

Definitely try another app

You could try deleting all the txts you have received from them, it may be a corruption in the message store

@turb This could be weirdly related to notification settings for the messages app. Have a dig around in the settings for that.

You could try in settings for the app 'force stop' then 'open'.
