Hi. I have been without my Mi Box / Dumb tv setup for the last 2-3 years. Long story but I have been living off the grid so to speak.
New house now built and good wifi re-established.
Anyway what I need to know is, Is Mi Box still up with the play or have things moved on ?
Is Kodi still ok ?
I'm well out of touch, appreciate your thoughts.

Mine still works fine, and does what I ask of it- Netflix and Kodi streaming off my NAS.

Mine still works well, and gets regular updates. Works well for Netflix, Disney, NZ streaming TV, Prime, etc.

ok. Thanks. Thinking back I did find Kodi a bit of a pain and the wife even more so.
Has it improved ? I'm sure my operating skills could have been better but I'm not sure if it was me or the system at fault.

Kodi runs fine once it has opened.  If you have a large library you will need a large memory stick to act as memory (think 64gb+) otherwise you can't get any updates and it runs vey slow)

Plug in a usb hub (ideally with an ethernet connection too!) and you can plug in a USB drive and include that as storage to use.

have you considered marriage counselling? this is an IT forum, so take our advice with a grain of salt.

Yes.  Either as external storage for transferring videos and the like, or internal storage for apps (which means it can't be read on a computer without formatting it) and it will break those apps saved to it if you remove it.

also, check out this XDA thread, I've applied the update and seems to make the box a wee bit more stable. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/official-stock-firmware-thread-mi-box-mdz-16-ab-and-mdz-22-ab.4241475/page-1

For others in the thread its bricked the devices, so use with caution....

I find the MiBox quite stable, with whatever the current firmware is. I checked last week and it's up to date.

Not exactly on topic but no doubt someone here will know know whats going on with my Mi box setup.
It acknowledges my wifi connection but will not accept my modem password.
Strange thing is my phone connects no problem, on the other hand wifes phone had the same issue with punching in the wifi password. Only when I applied the password to her phone via her scan code thingy could i connect her phone to modem.
Any thoughts ?

what version of Mi Box do you have? Mi Box 3 or Mi Box S (4)?

Mi Box S is on Android TV 9 and is very stable - and works really well (including latest version of Kodi from the Play Store)
I'm not sure what the Mi Box 3 is on.
