Hi

Hoping someone can help me with a question
I'm looking at getting an adapter for my Samsung A23 to plug my wired headphones in mainly to use the adapter DAC.
Would this work as the phone does have a 3.5mm port so I'm unsure if the audio can be accessed through USB C or is it permanently going through the 3.5mm?

Thanks in advance :)

I'd expect the software on any modern phone to have no issue driving a USB DAC even if it also has a hardwired jack and headphone port.

I am not sure what Android version is needed before USB audio works, but it should work on all recent versions.  I believe it uses the underlying Linux USB audio code, which is pretty good.  Look at the documentation of the USB Audio Player Pro app - it has a compatibility list.  My FiiO Q7 DAC works with both my Flip 4 phone and S8 tablet.  And you can get some pretty good USB DACs for very reasonable prices now.  I can recommend the Q7 - it is amazingly good, but also at the expensive end of the range (~$1500).  But there are DACs that are almost as good for less than half that.

What advantage do you see in using it? The Amazon summary of user reviews doesn’t highlight audio quality. (Some of the positive reviews look so much like a regurgitated press release they must be suspect.)

I was looking at getting something to improve the sound from my phone to my headphones

I've seen a Fiio KA3 on special which should do the job so I'll possibly get that.

There's usually not that much room to improve on DACs, unless you need a higher power output.

It's very much a situation where there is a theoretical limit on performance and consumer gear can get rather close to it.

i have a Audeze LCD 2F and i have tried all sorts of DACs from built in laptop to $2000 at the shop and I can't hear any improvement with $$$$. in fact i prefer the built in jack of my M1 macbook.

YMMV !
