As in title.

I've been trying to use 2Degrees eSIM internationally and long story short, it has been an absolute shit show. So I'm done with them.

Can anybody please confirm if they have eSIM working on a Google Pixel 7 with *any* other carrier? Bonus points if you are also running GrapheneOS.

I also need to be able to port my number through the Internet as I'm overseas and can't go into any stores.

Thank you

One thing to consider is that international roaming might not be available until you have attached to the home mobile network. I believe One or Spark may employ this as an antifraud measure.

One NZ wifi calling will work offshore though.

All three providers wont let you swap e-sims internationally must be done
on the home network

This is why you are better off with a standard SIM card in this case!

Ok so there is one way to do it, if you have a Wi-Fi AP that can create a VPN back to NZ (therefor giving you a NZ IP address when connected to it) you can swap e-sims internationally, but seriously what a pain in the backside.

Are you sure? I’m fairly sure they’ll require a connection to the WCDMA/LTE/5G home network before the roaming flag is enabled. Happy to be wrong though.

Aus is quite different. As long as you pass the ID verification, Optus and Vodafone are quite happy to provision a postpaid esim with $5 roaming enabled out of the box.

I am refering to transferring an existing e-sim from one phone to another (aka if you have two iPhones connected via wifi behind a vpn) and you airdrop the e-sim form one to another

New Connections (including physical to e-sim swaps) must connect to the home network first

He would be looking at a new connection as he is going 2D-> One or Spark?

I have purchased a new Spark prepaid esim and activated it in Australia and also transferred my One prepaid esim from iPhone 12 to iPhone 15 in Australia. Never used VPN for any of it.

Thank you everybody for your feedback.

I have in my possession a One eSIM, provisioned in NZ, that I took with me just in case. However this was also on my old phone.
1) Trying to transfer it to my Pixel 7 did not work: "Subject code:8.2.6 Reason code: 3.8"
2) I rang One support and after a lot of checking, I was told by level 1 support that swapping the eSIM into a new phone can only be done in NZ.
3) Trying with VPN to NZ on Phone via Cellular also did not work and gave same error as above.
4) Trying with VPN to NZ on Phone via Wi-Fi also did not work, but the error code initially (which I have lost because the forum ate the first version of this post). Subsequent attempts with this method give the same error message as above.

I've successfully loaded a local eSIM via QR code here and it works fine.

I'll try setting up a VPN for the home internet, maybe that will change things.
If not then I'll attemp to buy an eSIM from Spark while overseas and see how that goes (based on feedback from DeroyBoy).

Either way this has definitely been a learning experience about how eSIMs are nothing like real SIMs and the tech is just a complete shit show.

Will report back with how I go.

Let me be clear, the VPN has to be BEFORE YOUR PHONE aka on the Wifi ap itself in otherwards your phone has to connect to WiFi and have an NZ ip address without any VPN client running (think Mikrotik Router setup as an AP with an IPSEC Tunnel)

It is however NOT SUPPORTED any while it works you will get no support out of ONENZ or anyone else
