Just curious if anyone else has tried loading up Android on their Okta Touch (aka HTC Vogue)...

I found this site a while ago... but wasnt all that keen given that at the time he barely had phone functions working!  However, with the 1.5 update and others getting on board, it seems to be quite usuable.

I've only had it running for about a day, but so far it seems pretty good... once you get your head around the remapped hardware keys!!

Liking the Google Apps integration as I use Gmail

I've had a couple of "process blah blah" has stopped working errors... but the most annoying issue I've had so far is that I cannot send TXT messages to numbers in +642xxxxxx format.  I have to use 02xxxxxx, which is kind of annoying given that all my contacts are in +642xxxxx format!!! Frown  I am able to make calls to +64xxxxxxx format numbers, just cannot TXT... bizarre...

Also, I am running Windows7 64bit... getting the 64bit ADB drivers to work was a bit of a mission... but that kind of comes with the win7 territory.

The ADB commandline util for transferring files etc is not quite as user friendly as the usual windows explorer integrated type things that most phones seem to have these days... but it works.

Glad you like it, Android on the Okta Touch is fairly mature now and almost as good as an HTC Magic. Show it off to your friends, it would be good to have more Kiwis using this. Shame it'll only be usable till the CDMA network is switched off. I didn't know about the +64 problem, I'll see if it can be fixed easily.

Aside from the + prefix issue, the only thing that is stopping me from using it fulltime is the lack of bluetooth. I use a bluetooth headset a lot while driving (also sync via bluetooth), so it is a real issue not being able to use that :(

GPS is pretty solid tho... GoogleMaps works well...

As I said, I REALLY like the Gmail integration! ;) It just works compared with the effort and 3rd party utils you have to use on WinMo...

Liking the voice search as well... was surprised how well it works!

Just a shame about the texting and bluetooth :(

We'll get BT working in the end and I just looked at the +64 issue, looks simple to fix.

OK get this:
cs-alb-pc3.massey.ac.nz/vogue/files/libhtcgeneric-ril.so
and do the following:
adb shell mount / -o rw,remount
adb push libhtcgeneric-ril.so /lib
adb shell killall rild
adb shell mount / -o ro,remount
(assuming you are using the latest rootfs)
