OK, some issues have surfaced so heads up for anyone looking at the Hero.

First off, we are dealing with an unsupported phone as far as Voda are concerned so I dont expect much help there.

Here is what I have experienced so far.........

My phone is a Singapore model and works perfectly for voice and txt, I made no settings changes, just popped the sim card in and off it went. Previously had LocalZone set up on the other phone and that works fine as well.

Whats not working......

No 3G icon and because of below I dont know if 3G is actually working.

No data/internet connection over 3G. I can connect to Internet via Wifi to my modem.

MMS doesn't work.

I have played around with settings gleaned from the Voda site and from here but no joy. I am rather surprised that Voda do not list settings for the Magic, one of their supported phones, that should be similiar to the Hero but they list settings for HTC phones they have never offered, strange.

Any suggestions welcome.....

Hi,

Wifi you will need to set up based on your network at home. I can't help you with that really. Settings, Wireless Settings, Wifi-Settings.

For 3G, you need to go into Settings, Wireless Settings, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names and select Menu, New APN.

Then select APN and type in:
vodafone.net.nz

Then you can name it if you want selecting Name and typing in vodafone.

Let me know how you get on.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

OK, data is working, can see a 3G or H icon now but still no joy with MMS. I wonder if I have to send one first, recall seeing that somewhere.

Good to hear the 3G is working. It won't show up when the Wifi is going (that was an afterthought I had last night).

The MMS should work... I wrote an application which sends voice recordings via MMS. It was a while ago though so I'll test again and let you know.

1.6 is great (esp. if you use VPN), plus camera and other bits much better. Still find the Wifi a bit flakey... :/ I've only installed on G1.
