I have ordered a Nexus One online and using Shipito to send to NZ. So far I have spent USD 580 with Google. Shipito will be USD8.50 plus actual shipping costs.
Shipping status from google to Shipito is currently showing as NYS.
Will update as it happens :-)

You order from directly from Google, and it's not locked.

Check the other discussion for what/how people have done it.

I can confirm it's not locked since I have put both an AT&T and VFNZ SIM card in mine and both work.

Its a pity Shipto is based in California the state with the highest state sales tax which is 8.75%, and on top of this there can be local tax additions. I got mine shipped to a friend in Arizona where sales tax is only 5.6%, mine was $558. Also in California anything with an LCD screen over 4 inches attracts an additional recycle levy. Say a GPS of 4.3".

Keep us posted on cost of shipping to NZ by Shipto, and if picked up by customs, what if any costs.

Now this button does what? whoops!

Arrived at Shipito this morning. I had already paid by credit card for the account and used Paypal to pay the balance of the freight. Late this afternoon I received email stating that account had to be checked because of "anonymous proxy".
I had to send back a copy of a form that they required be signed, verifying address, 2 forms of id with photo and a copy of a utility bill. After completion of this exercise I requested that my parcel, that had been in their possession since 9am, be despatched. They are now closed and parcel has not been sent.
Be careful about using their service !

peejayw: That's what happened to jamesyb0i, too. Didn't look like much fun.....so I didn't bother. Don't want any hassles when I finally do get my new, best toy. ;-)

You would probably find that most package forwarding places require this, especially if you are using them for the first time.

US Customs are so strict, that they have no choice but to follow these kind of procedures.

maybe you could ring up customs and pay over the phone if you haven't got the letter yet; saves a day or two but hassles the staff

It would be good if you could post your experiences in the thread I created about N1 experiences in NZ so we can have all comments in one place.

Agree about the screen - small text shows up very nicely. As for speed - well I have nothing to compare it with but it's so cool to be able to say something in the search app and have a Google search result come back quickly.
