UPDATE: I had a bid on this phone...and it was up on my screen in the browser. Then the details changed to say it closed at "3:04PM March 17th" ...and when I refreshed the page....it was gone, gone gone. LOL! Here is the notice I got from TradeMe.

Trade Me

show details 15:05 (50 minutes ago)

The following auction has been withdrawn by Trade Me because the seller failed to provide proof that the goods were in their possession:

'Sony Ericsson XPERIA 10 (x10) -First in NEWZEALAND' (listing no. 277757658)

Happy trading,

The Trade Me Team

********************************************************************

No idea where this seller got his Xperia 10 as they haven't been released anywhere as far as I know. I did read that pre-orders may have been shipping up to 3 weeks early in central Europe...so maybe that's it.

But given this phone is as rare as mouse wings so far, I'm amazed to see it already for sale in NZ.

I've looked online and haven't yet found anywhere to buy this phone and have it shipped.....so if you want to get something special.....this may be your chance.

No...the phone isn't mine and I have no idea who is selling it. I'm just amazed to see it at all.

14:25 - Update: I put a question to the seller and he answered:

Q: I'm amazed. This phone isn't available anywhere yet. How did you get it? :-) The price point also appeared to be US$800+....so your price is amazing. This is the full Xperia 10 and not the Xperia 10 Mini or Mini Pro?linuxluver (19 )  11:40 am, Mon 15 Mar

A: Yeah Sony Ericsson will be making the finalization on the price around 900USD as per release for the White edition, since these will only be made in the thousands. Standard black will be the primary color for the phone as I've heard. I get phones from Japan and also China, most of the ones not even released and sell them here, well i will be soon though. I have friends that work for Sony Ericsson so that's how i got it. And pretty sweet I have GOW 3 and clocked it too.. simply Amazing! :). FULL. 11:57 am, Mon 15 Mar

5 feedbacks, less than 100% positive at that? Despite the pictures with the Waikato Times I would steer clear my friends, steer well clear...

Looks genuine to me. Has also uploaded pics of the phone with Waikato times newspaper in the back ground. Just 1 negative feedback out of 6 total.

ps - It's not me. Tongue out

The seller maybe seriously dodgy but does appear to have the handset - there are photos of it in front of the newspaper which seem pretty genuine.

Theres the chance he actually has the phone, but once he receives payment, quite possibly he won't send it. Thats my theory anyways and why I would never bid on a phone that isn't widely available

I'm feeling like a risk manager....so I put a bid in and met the reserve. Come what may, the seller has now sold the phone.

Fingers-crossed someone outbids me!!! If not, I get it for a good price...so fingers crossed no one out bids me.

I call knock off to be honest (it looks to be a good one at that though)

I know plenty of people in the manufacturer side of the business and not one of them would ever even considering selling a device to their mate/s before it's been released anywhere in the world.

Sure this could be one of those very rare times where this has happened, but as the saying goes 'caveat emptor'

Even if its not a knock off, this could easily be a prototype device, running non-release firmware, theres no warranty support etc etc. It could all work out well, but I wouldn't risk it!

Well it "looks" to be the real mcoy, and a pretty good one at that.

I have posted a question on the auction as follows:

Before possibly parting with hundreds of dollars of my hard earnt money, I'd like to know one thing. What happened in the trade with the Asus laptop? With such a small number of trades and only 85% positive feedback, please allay my fears :-) overstayerz (94 ) 6:42 pm, Mon 15 Mar

Thought I'd do a bit of fishing :D

BrentR: You could be right. But the guy is advertising it as the real article...so if it's a scam (and I'm "the winner"), the police will be called.....never mind what happens with TradeMe.

tardtasticx: Caveat Emptor is Latin for "buyer beware". Latin is the language the Romans spoke 2000 years ago and it remained the language of education and civilisation in Europe for over 1,500 years after the Roman Empire ended. It was considered a necessary part of one's education up until about 100 years ago....and is still taught in many schools. It remained popular for a very long time because it the Catholic Church used it for everything....and it allowed people who spoke different languages to converse using Latin as a "universal" language. It's also still used a lot in law and medicine. All masses (services) in the Catholic Church were in Latin until the 1960s and Latin was the main language of the Catholic Church until very recently.

The interface doesn't match the real X10, so I doubt it's a real phone at all....
