My magic reported a new version of Maps was available this morning, so installed it, however it reports "Activity Maps (in application Maps) is not responding", only way out is to kill, it.

I have done a complete reboot (pulled battery etc) but still no go, anyone else noticed this?

Well this morning I awoke to a notification that maps wanted to update my original 3.X version to 4.1.2.6, so I thought lets give it another chance, and alls good does not crash.

What is interesting is that the version delivered a couple of days ago was 4.1.1.6 and when I uninstalled it was horrified to note it was 6.9Mbyte in size compared to the 0.94Mbytes of the 3.X version. I would expect an increase, but 8x!!!

Well todays 4.1.2.6 weighs in a 3.3Mbyte, so maybe someone left the debug stuff in 4.1.1.6 which locked up phones without dev software installed, who knows.

Still loving the Magic, best phone I have ever had. I use maps quite a bit even though I have a TomTom for guiding me to places unkown, 99% of the time my journeys are to places I know pretty well, and the TomTom is useless at just browsing maps or areas I know or searching for addresses, this is where Maps wins out big time.

Cheers
Cyril

I think there was a note that if the app crashed after installing you were to remove and re-install. I had that problem on my Nexus One and after re-installing it's fine.

The Market says there's an update available but notes it's 4.1 without any revision information. I grabbed it and as you note, it's 4.126. Not sure what the changes are but it's a cool app. I use Maps more often than I use CoPilot Live which I bought since it's able to find destinations with a more general search than CPL where you have to know the city or suburb sometimes.

In case anybody is interested here is a link to the Maps 4.1 hacked by Brut to provide turn by turn navigation outside the US

Maps 4.1

It works fine on the N1. It isn't perfect since the voice commands are often late and the top of the screen always shows Unnamed Road but the road names on the map and on the bottom of the navigation are correct.

The voice can be a bit strange when it says Lambton Kai (instead of Key!). And Maori names sound a bit strange also.

How do we go about installing that? I assume we need some sort of installer?
