Interesting read. Considering this is a beta release it bodes well for a final release being nice and snappy.

Very rudimentary benchmark which doesn't necessary mean that 2.2 is 450% faster than 2.1.  Its better at running the benchmark app, thats all.  Flash support is definitely looking good.  Whats the bet 2.2 will decrease battery life by about 50%?

Prelim benchmarks show that pretty much everything is at least around 50% quicker, the 450% is a best-case scenario, generally on very repetitive loop functions like benchmarks.

You can play with the JIT now if you don't mind an unstable phone with one of the beta Eclair ROMs from xda-forums if you want. I'd recommend against it.

More speed for free = a good thing!
