The specs would seem to ideally  suite the NZ market.  My only concern is that it's made by Acer..

I had an Acer Liquid A1 / S100 for a couple of months. It was essentially the same phone as the Stream inside, except the Stream has a faster processor and a nicer looking case. Both have 5MP cameras.

Those two improvements make the Stream look like an excellent buy. They also appear to have put the price up a wee bit as the original Acer Liquid was a bit cheaper.

There is a very active modder community around the Acer Liquid and leaks of ROMs from Acer have been regular if not too many.... :-)

The phone itself was almost impossible to brick as the Acer Download Tool and a stock ROM would be enough to bring it back from the dead bar everything but a hardware failure.

Having used one Acer Android phone already, I wouldn't hesitate to try this one. It looks like they have learned from the first one and this one is even better.

The only real downside to the older Liquid was the relatively meager 150MB of internal storage space for apps. This was a phone crying out for Apps2sd...and I used it with Liquid Community ROM (LCR) v1.2.3 onward. It worked great.

With Android v2.2, Apps2sd will be supported as a stock function.

Their info is incorrect. There is no Acer Liquid that is Quad band 3G.

PB Tech also have them at a similar price.... But when you add the GST it's no far away from some of the more competent devices

I had an Acer Liquid A1.

The build materials were cheaper (shiny plastic) but the phone overall was awesome value for the money. 5MP camera, 768MHz ARMv7 (ie: Flash capable) Snapdragon processor with 384MB of system RAM. I could clock it up to 920MHz reliably. The only downside was a paltry 160MB of internal app space (after bundled apps accounted for). But there are Froyo ROMs available for it and you can use Apps2SD, so those issues can be easily addressed. There is also a very active mod / hack / dev community at modaco.com....("Liquid Community ROM" - LCR).....and Acer leaks beta ROMs like a sieve...so there is always new stuff to play with.

The Stream look really good.

I would not hesitate to buy an Acer phone based on my Liquid A1 experience.   I got it 2nd-hand for $550 via TradeMe back in March. Dollars for function, it's one of the best Android phones around.  The Liquid E is 1GHz and even better.

Yeah...looks like they've put together a grab bag of specs without regard to whether or not the model of phone comes in more than one version.
