I have discovered that the Android market app on my Desire is not the sole repository of Android apps (yes I know I should have figured that out earlier) with sites such as Getjar having apps on them as well.

Are there any sites that people here have used and recommend?
Also do the apps on these sites end up in the Android market as well?

Cheers

Um appbrain.com seems alright, you can sign up and deploy apps straight to your phone by sending a gmail link

I just tick them on my PC and they appear after opening the links on my phone

I have used SlideMe. You pay via PayPal.

Many of the apps are also in the main market, but some are in the alternate market because Google won't allow them (because telcos don't like them).

Examples of apps excluded from the main market are "TetherWifi" (paid app - works well on G1 and HTC Magic - doesn't appear to be being maintained anymore and doesn't work on newer phones) and "Wifi Tether for Root Users" (free and well maintained) available from SourceForge.

MiKandi is the porn app site.

There are others.....but I only go to alternates when I need to....and with 80,000+ android apps in the main market...i don't need to very often.
