Hi

Just having some troubles with charging the Desire in the car,
I have a 1a Belkin car charger, and i am using the cord that came with the phone, but its barely charging, and when i start using it, the battery goes down?

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Sounds like the phone is not getting the 5v it needs.

Have you checked the lighter socket/battery with a multimeter?

DO you mean the socket is only putting out 5v? It should be 12v?

You need to eliminate the various things that are causing the problem. First make sure your cable works say off a PC or the charger. Then try the Belkin and cable in another car ciggie lighter.

I had a problem with the Belkin I had in that it didnt fit into the socket properly in my Hilux. They are not tapered like some adaptors and dont fit into all lighter sockets.

I plugged the cable into my iPhone wall charger and the same thing. But when I plug it Into the HTC charger it charges fast

Does the battery somehow know that its not an HTC charger or something?

The HTC charger is rated at 1A (at least mine is) but a USB port only gives you a maximum of 500mA so the wall charger should in theory be faster.

What rating is the Iphone wall charger?

I'm using a two different 1A mains chargers (neither of them the original HTC), a Belkin 1A car charger and occasionally my notebook. Haven't noticed any issues with either method as far as charging goes. Do you run an app in the car that might be draining the battery more than it should? Have noted comments in the Market regarding some apps chewing though juice fast.

Hey
Na I am just using Twitter or Facebook or on the net, just basic stuff
Maybe because the battery is new it needs a few charges before it comes right? Which won't take long, the battle life is not great atm!

Not all chargers are the same, some just give out 5v and nothing to signal its a charger, so things that actually adheire to the USB spec will not charge. USB charging spec says 200 ohms between the 2 data pins, apples made up spec is something different.

See this thread, you need to short the two middle pins of the USB cable together for it to charge at 900mA.
