It seems Fring was the only way to get skype voip on 3g or even on wifi? now fring no longer supports sykpe I am just wondering what others are using on android?

skype is desireable because of its huge user base.

Anyone have any recommendations, I am basically wanting to make voip calls (cheap per minute to everwhere or even have a "unlimited" package).  I want to be able to do it over 3g or wifi, real voip not these callback systems that some use that actually use your cell minutes.

I took a brief look at SIP and sipdroid, fring with SIP support etc.
I can see why SIP hasnt arrived for the masses, it appears complex and I am checking before I spend time diving into that if that is the best option to go with and if it is does anyone know a good sip provider etc....

Legend, and this works fine over 3g as well?
Have you used it? how is the call quality?

update on nimbuzz

Well I just tested nimbuzz, skypeout calls went fine through wifi but with 3g is another story.
With 3g, there is just no sound at either end.
Googling it, it seems to be a common problem and they also say there are 10-30 second delays.

Anyone else have ideas for voip over 3g on android? :)

update: I just dropped into the nimbuzz forums, they are aware of the skype issues and are working on fixing them with android.

I've used 2talk with SIPdroid. It worked. But you need very good 3G coverage.  Forget about it if you're moving. You need to stay in the location where it works...and don't move too much. :-)

If you like, I can set it up and you can call me in the evening to test. I've been meaning to get it going again since Fring stopped doing Skype and Skype have remained utterly useless.

Fring to Fring will work fine. Might be worth encouraging anyone willing to go that way.
