I have the latest version of Kies 1.5.1_10083. When I connect the phone via USB it's not being picked up as having a device connected.

I found the same today at work. I would plug the USB in and the phone was not connected. I've tried all my USB ports one by one and not one of them will fire up any connection with the software.

I've also shut everything down and done a "restart" of my home computer.

Work is Win7 64 bit. Home is Vista (Home premium) 32 bit.

Is there something I'm missing? I have been able to connect my phone at home and at work (once). The phone is 7 days old so I've not had much need to connect yet to do any upgrades etc.

Some pointers to things to check:

1) In settings, About Phone, USB Settings, choose 'Ask on connection'
2) Make sure USB Debugging under Settings/Applications/Development is not selected
3) For Kies to work you need to be using the Samsung Touchwiz home launcher, not Launcher Pro, ADW etc. And all apps should be shut.
4) For accessing the phone like a USB drive, once the USB cable is connected, you need to drag down the notification bar on the phone and choose the USB connected item, and choose to 'mount' your internal SD card so the PC can read it

I Had the same problem. Kies 1.5.1_10083 is an old version. I downloaded the latest version of kies from the samsung website, it was 1.5.3.10093_31. It recognised there was device device then took ages before it connected to the my samsung galaxy S GT-I9000. Make sure your phone is in keis mode when you connect your phone by usb. There is a newer version of keis on the samsung website which is 1.5.3.10093_80.

When installing keis you may need to restart your computer, also when you first connect your device you may also need to restart your computer.
