I'm half tempted to get the "2010 model" Eken M001, especially following the other thread here recently which mentions how much more usable it is. I'm wondering however if it's worth waiting and getting something running Eclair or Froyo?

Then again, I've seen the likes of:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Laptops/Laptops/Other/auction-315758008.htm

At that kind of a price, it's pretty darn hard to pass up.

I guess my problem is I've got no idea what I'd use it for, I'm presuming mostly just browsing. Admittedly flash would be very nice, but not (generally) without Froyo on the device.

I guess I'm just keen for a bit of healthy debate around what's currently out there at the moment, and what may just be around the corner?

Peoples thoughts / comments / suggestions, who have an Android tablet already?

Cheers

If you can get a better Android tablet.....get it. :-)

But if you want to play for cheap with a low-spec piece of hardware nasty that costs about the same as a nice meal for one at a top restaurant.....then get the M001.

Better yet.....buy the cheap nasty now....and it's so cheap it shouldn't impact on the purchase of an *awesome* tablet running Froyo (and Android 3.0 ready!) in 4 - 6 months.

If you do get an M001.....install "Relax v1.9.6" on it. Not a previous version.....that one. It's a sweet spot. Everything works out of the box, including the Android Market.

There may be a better firmware tomorrow or next week....but today, that's the best one.

http://www.shanzai.com/ to see what's coming. Which appears to be a metric f-ton of Android tablets.

Yeah you have a good point about a Gingerbread-based tablet, I guess I'd be pretty keen for that ...
I guess when I think about it, there's not a lot of functionality from Android-2.2 that I'd specifically need in the immediate future over the likes of Android-1.6 too, considering I'd need a gruntier device to do things like decent resolution h.264 video output to a screen, or whatever.

Definitely something to think about, thanks :D
