So it seems there are a few of us who have taken a gamble on eking, and from what i can gather from various threads we're not able to update to Android 2.2 (froyo) without rooting due to debranding and reflashing of software before it reaches us.

I myself am on a Wildfire, and am waiting patiently for the official update to be released... though i foresee the problems people with eking imported Desires are suffering through happening to Wildfire owners also.

Key points i've collected from various threads so far are
- The handsets were originally german
- the OTA auto update puts handsets into a boot cycle, which removing the battery and rebooting reverts to a functional 2.1 OS

If we could keep all solutions, correspondances with eking, workarounds, and helpful bits of information condensed into one thread hopefully we can open up our devices in the manner we had expected when we paid for them.

...short of rooting, obviously: which for me is a last-resort silverbullet.

Cheers and good luck.

I am apparently the only person to have successfully returned a phone for a fix, but at a price. I will post more tomorrow.
