This app is now in the marketplace. It's pretty cool in that it puts all your key applications for when you're driving into one customisable application.

I have changed Navigation (which doesn't work) to Brut Navigation (which does) and also added CoPilot Live to the main icons.   Love the large icons which makes is so much easier to use (not to mention safer) when driving and the neat trick that when you connect a BT device to the phone, it can automaticaly fire up the application.

I now just need to find a robust cradle solution that won't break after a month or so usage (cheap plastic construction).

Neat, I thought I might adapt this dash mounting solution to fit my N1.

It works on the Galaxy S with Froyo beta rom (e.g. JPK) if you download it from here. You need Launcher Pro to launch it. If you use the auto Bluetooth activation then it will go back to the Car Home menu when you press the Home button. Without Bluetooth it goes back to the Launcher home, although the Back button will return to the Car Home from launched apps.

Activation by Bluetooth is kind of cool. I have reconfigured my home screens so that Navigation is Brut Navigation and Maps is Brut Maps.

Got it working with ADW Launcher as well (using a shortcut to Activity). Hopefully the Bluetooth will auto-activate it, but if not I guess I can use Tasker. SGS as well.

Hmm, it does autoactivate with Bluetooth (good) but also interferes with some other Tasker activities with the same trigger. Tried deactivting the Bluetooth trigger for Car Home and calling it manually with Tasker instead, but for some reason Tasker doesn't close Car Home when I exit the BT connection. I also managed to crash the phone pressing the home button to see which 'Home' it would go back to. Pity.

I am using the JPK beta Froyo, so here's hoping the 'final' Froyo SW plays nicely.

Finally got this all working nicely - went back to BT auto for Car Home, and just added some delays to my Tasker tasks, seems to have resolved it. Nice.

What's wrong with the official N1 car dock? I love it, it's probably one of the better dash / windscreen mounts I've ever used?

Works with 2.2 or 2.1 too...

Nothing wrong with it, except where in Auckland can I go to buy it?

Never mind Auckland, Id love to know where to buy one in NZ !

At the moment I have a desktop dock from dealextreme hardwired through a usb/lighter adapter hidden under the center console but am getting a little tired of plugging in the 3.5mm to RCA for the stereo

Although am I right in remembering the official dock doesnt have audio out ?

Good point, I brought mine in from the US when I imported it for XT.

Do Vodafone not sell them? That's pretty terrible ...

The Desktop dock comes with a 3.5mm output, and a 3.5mm male 2x male RCA
The Car dock does not (Unless I've missed it all this time), it's automatic Bluetooth only

Vf tell me its not their place to sell accessories, they sell phones !

I think Ill just get a desktop dock instead then, a car dock with no audio out of pathetic really. Why would you want to use the rubbish speaker to listen to your music ?

When it comes to cars, BT is preferred anyway, surely? I've been through 3 or 4 handsets and 2 cars in the last two years and kept everything working with the same BT-FM transmitter in every case. And been able to use it for the odd journey in someone else's car. Would not have been able to do that with hardwired docks.

[Flame Bait] Anyone who thinks they can tell the difference between (good) BT/FM and hardwired in a car, in terms of quality, is either fooling themselves or driving far too expensive a car!

Ill rise to the bait......Anyone who cant tell the difference between a proper hardwired setup and an FM transmitter is clearly deaf !

But thats another debate :)
