Anyone else notice how some apps just disappear from the Market?

I'm not talking about spam apps or rubbish apps that don't actually work.

What happened to the Starfield and logcat live wallpapers? I have the APKs backed up and continue to sideload them when required, but they aren't visible to me in the Market anymore. Is it just my phone? (Galaxy S) or are they actually gone? AndroLib and Appbrain say they are gone.

In the case of Starfield, someone else ("pook"?) tried to release one a couple of weeks ago and it, too, disappeared in a couple of days after barely 1,000 downloads.

I'm thinking there needs to be a register of desirable - but disappeared - apps. Many of them can be found on blackdroid.net....but not all of them. Appbrain do have a lag period in which a disappeared app is still in their index, but noted as "No longer in the Market". But these disappear, too, after a few days.

Having thinigs disappear without any notice or explanation creates uncertainty and undermines my trust in the Market as a reliable source for the software I want. I now back up everything - paid and free - in case it is "disappeared".

I have noticed that some apps that are visible to me on my Desire are not visible to my GF on her Wildfire. I wonder if we are looking at the same market [Geographically] or whether it can tell the phone she has and caters the results to only show apps that she can run.

I wonder if this has some bearing on what you are seeing. Have you looked on any other Android?

I can see Pooks Start field live Wallpaper 1000-5000 downloads & Logcat Live Wallpaper by BoD?

I do know the view of the market is affected by the combination of attributes described (in part) in the build.prop file on the phone. This file describes the make and model of the phone and the region it operates in....and the system software levels installed.  The Market doesn't generally let you see apps it knows aren't compatible with your phone or that the developer has said should be estricted to a particular region (eg: a banking app for a specific bank).

As I can see two of the apps you said are "missing" Pook Starfield and LogCat, has something changed with your phone preventing you from seeing them rather than them actually disappearing fom the Market?

Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the Market app? I'm not sure why that would make a difference but it feels like a thing to do :~{)

I'm pretty sure some apps are location restricted, for example we can't get the Nook application here.
