I've used the unrevoked3 auto-root program to gain Superuser access to my phone, but I've been having trouble finding ROMs that work!

I tried using ROM Manager to download/install Cyanogenmod, but it fails every time :(

Has anybody got  any ideas/suggestions for me? I'd love to stay on a virgin-copy of Android 2.2, but I'm well & truly sick of seeing the "Low memory" message!! :(

Leedroid for me too. 2.2a is running nicely. Might try other options some time but for now I have no reason to. Have a 1/2GB partition on the SD card for the installs and it certainly helps not getting the memory warning daily.

I couldn't flash any non-sense ui ROMs at first. So pick a sense ui ROM and flash that.

I'm on LeeDroid 2.2a at the moment too - waiting for the gurus to sort out the camera issue on ported DesireHD ROM...

Which camera issue?
I installed LeeDroid 2.2 yesterday and was having the Video Camera issue where it locked buzzed and crashed the phone completely. However after installing the latest Radio from LeeDroid's Dropbox HERE using ROM Manager it all seems fine and I can now record video including the 720p setting and it looks very clear.

The camera issue is not on the LeeDroid ROM - it's on the ported Desire HD ROM...

Just a side question.... At what point does the "low memory" warning pop up? I'm down to 18mb free...

You mean ROM/storage space or RAM?

On mine it popped up at 10MB (ROM space)

I still haven't managed to figure out where to *get* new ROMs and/or how to go about installing them on my Desire. It was such an easy process on the Magic!!

I am a complete novice at phone-rooting etc but I managed to root and install LeeDroid on my HTC Desire on Sunday. Was surprisingly easy and the instructions for unrevoked3 were very good & step-by-step.

Couple of scares when I hit a reboot loop but I reinstalled the ROM and wiped the d- cache and it started up fine. also when the video camera would crashed the phone but I installed the radio zip to fix this and all is good now. The video is very good.

Only gripe for me is that the menu button no longer unlocks the screen so I have to touch the screen to unlock it. I prefer to use the buttons where possible.

Thanks for that, I still get mixed up between the two, but I'm talking ROM, storage space.

so I'm not 100% certain that I have got the custom recovery either.

If I boot into recovery, I got the 3 little Androids at the bottom of the screen with this up the top:

BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-0.09.05.30_2

I'm a noob. I *know* I have the customer ClockworkMod Recovery installed. ROM Manager tells me so!!

*sigh*

So from here, is it really as simple as selecting "Download ROM" and then CyanogenMod? ROM Manager will do the rest for me?
