I know I've posted about this before, but I've been getting the "Low Memory" warning again recently and I hate it!

I've installed ROM Manager and have flashed the ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7

I have attempted to backup my existing ROM, but when I reboot I get a white triangle with a yellow exclamation mark and an Android standing next to it.

If I press the power button at the top of the phone I get the following:

-reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-install zip from sdcard
-backup and restore
-mounts and storage
-advanced
----------------------------------

ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid a
rgument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

so I've clicked on 'backup and restore' and it appears to be working.

Is anybody able to give blow-by-blow directions of how they've used ROM Manager to install a new ROM on their HTC Desire? Specifically the Cyanogenmod ROM as that's what I'm wanting.

I'm sorry if I'm coming across a bit too cautious about this, but I spent $900 on this phone and I don't have a spare $900 if I brick this one! :(

Do you have an SD card in there? ROM manager should just "work". Select the cyanogenmod download option, make sure you do the wipe data/cache.

Go to "install zip from SD card" find the "toggle signature verification" option make sure signature verification is disabled. You will see a confirmation in white about 3/4 of the way down the screen. Once disabled select "Choose zip from SD card" choose your ROM zip and follow the prompts to install it; once installed then go to the top menu and select advanced>Wipe the dalvik Cache choose "yes - wipe dalvik cache" then go to top menu and choose reboot system now.

If you get a reboot loop, just repeat the steps above and you should get it to work

edit, the above was for my install of LeeDroid using ROM Manager. And also subsequent software updates like Sense UI and the latest Radio version.
I am only assuming that it would be the same for any ROM installed using ROM Manager.

Ah, you might also need the latest radio for newer 2.2 based ROMs, as well.

How do I see what version radio I have? The phone is as up-to-date as I can get so I think I have the most recent radio...

About Phone tells me

Baseband version: 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 if that's what you're looking for...

I think I've found my problem!

I downloaded the cyanogenmod ROM via ROM Manager.
I've gone to "choose zip from sdcard" option in Recovery & disabled signature verification.
I then chose "choose zip from sdcard" and I can't find the ROM! I've got the gapps-hdp1-20100930-signed.zip but I can't find any other zip! Does anybody know where ROM Manager stores the downloaded zips? It's not in either Downloads or downloads...

I'm getting closer though, I can practically smell it!!

Ahh, not sure, you could always download the zip manually and copy it over to the sd card

I found it!

/clockworkmod/download/mirror.kanged.net/cm/stable/bravo/update-cm-6.0.2-Desire-signed.zip

Does that look right?

Now that I think I've found it, I'm all nervous again about turning my phone into a very expensive paperweight :(

Clock is usually pretty good, if you it messes up, you can usually just try a different ROM, etc.

*UPDATE*

It worked; I was right about the location of the update file ^.^

I'm finally running Cyanogenmod on my HTC Desire!

Now do I need to format my sdcard in any special way in order for apps2sd to take effect or is it automatic?

For googles native apps2d, it should just work, otherwise you have to partition it with a FAT32 partition and a ext3fs partition. Not sure about Cyanogenmod tho, there should be a faq for that.

as long as it's FAT32, app2sd should just work on CM6 :)
