I notice that Brut Maps has been updated on the 7th November
Here is a changelog:

brut17 (07.11.10)

  • updated GM to version 4.6.0.4686

  • from now GM is released in 3 variants: -brut, -brut-renamed and -brut-renamed-tagged

  • added an option to choose map cache format - AndNav is a default, but old one is also supported

  • added support for zipped map cache

  • app directory is always /sdcard/brut.googlemaps - it does not depend on package name

  • readded es_MX language

  • removed Vector map test

  • fixed some ContextNotSet warnings

Haven't tested it out yet but will give it a go in next few days

Seems like the versions with alternate naming and icon tags have issues with not responding, so I'm gonna wait a bit before updating.

Yeah I'll stick to 4.4 for now

I uninstalled the official google maps then installed this. Seems to be working well.

Don't think so.

It said it was going to replace the system app...and the only version on my Vodafone 845 was the Google version. I don't want to replace it. I want Maps [brut] to run along side it...and the comments in the OP at XDA indicated you needed the renamed version to avoid the app name conflict.

The renamed apps also had comments (2 days ago) indicating they may not work, so I didn't bother as the filesharing sites barely work at the best of times and I had already downloaded the main (not renamed) version.

I used the renamed version on my Galaxy S (v4.4)...and it works fine. I have no real reason to upgrade that phone, but did want to also install it on my VF 845.

The renamed app will install and work alongside GM. You have to uninstall the GM upgrades, install the renamed Brut map and then just reinstall the GM updates.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.
