This is fairly new but it's up on the Market now.

Just wondering if anyone has used it? I'm thinking of it, but wary. The main thing I want to be able to do is delete a lot of the stock apps that came with my Galaxy S and I understand that my phone has to be rooted to enable me to load apps that will let me do the deleting?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I used the chainfire method for rooting my galaxy s, as this was the most recommended method on the xda forums. This method will also add recovery mode and download mode if your phone doesn't already have it. It involves using Odin to apply the fix. It's still quite tricky to uninstall system apps when you have root as you have to use terminal or adb, unless you already know of a app that is good at uninstalling system apps.

I just installed and tried it on my (formerly) stock Froyo JP6 Galaxy S...and it works as claimed.

My phone is now rooted and I installed ShootMe! and Root Explorer immediately and both work perfectly.

Good! That was so easy it was silly.

A custom recovery would be nice.....for backup and restore....but I'm happy with the phone and now it's rooted I don't see any point in flashing anything else.

As RyanZA now has root sorted out for Froyo, I've also re-installed the One Click Lag Fix (OCLF) on my Galaxy S...and it is in the middle of seting up my phone at the mo'.

Looking good. I've been without a lag fix for a month now...so should be able to see clearly if it actually makes any difference over time. I say that because last time I used a lagfix it improved things for a few days....then it started lagging again.

UPDATE: OH MY GOD! OCLF 2.2.8 on my Froyo JP6 phone is SO MUCH FASTER! Twidroyd Pro opens immediately and updates appear immediately. I'd all but given up on the app as a laggy piece of crud....and now it's a race horse.

Why ShootMe? If you press and hold the search key and then press the home button it takes screenshots in Froyo anyways :)

I went straight away and did the chainfire Root anyways, for the reasons mentioned above.

The screenshot method in Froyo doesn't work in a lot of apps. Touching those buttons (back and home) just saw the app in question act as though I had pressed Back or Home. I've had success in the Home screens and in any system menus or settings.....but it completely failed in most app contexts.

ShootMe lets me have a screenshot of anything, anywhere.....

The Galaxy S is an awesome phone, but so far it has not engaged me to the point where I'll invest the time to use ODIN. I did practice updates via Kies and I did root it when it was Eclair and apply a couple of different lag fixes. It all felt fragile. Kies did not impress.

But tonight....with the phone rooted and OCLF obviously making a huge difference....I might be becoming more interested in this phone. :-)

Been using OCLF v2.2.8 lag fix on my Galaxy S / Froyo for a full day now. The difference is incredible. I thought it was reasonably good before, but now the phone is really behaving like the super phone it is on the specs.

My Quadrant scores were barely 900 before....but the improvement in the I/O times has doubled it....and you can see that both during the benchmark and in normal operation of the phone.  Some might say Quandrant place too much emphasis on the I/O scores, but for the difference I/O makes to the overall performance of the Galaxy S, I'd say their weighting appears to be appropriate.

I tried OCLF on Eclair and it did improve it, but the the improvement - subjectively - on Froyo is even greater.

Quadrant score: OCLF 2.2.8 / Froyo JP6 / Galaxy S

@ Linuxluver: My phone is stock, running 2.2. After being wary of all this flashing/tweaking stuff I now think I'm ready to try what you have described above because the results seem so dramatic and impressive.

I'm guessing that I need to first use the new Z4root one click root, then use the OCLF?

Would be grateful if you could give me some pointers - esp on how to do the OCLF.

Thanks

I did the one click root first, then OCLF, but they are from the same author...so you'd think OCLF would also be able to root Froyo.

But I didn't try that path. I did z4root first, then OCLF second.

UPDATE 04/12/10: Looks like the rooting function was removed from OCLF and is now in z4root. I hadn't realised this when I posted my comments above. So if you have a Galaxy S....you need both to get root and use OCLF.
