"z4root" is an awesome wee (free) app from "RyanZA", a South African android developer.

You use it to gain root access to your Android phone with a single click. You can also UN-root your phone with a single click.

I just tried it on my Vodafone 845. It worked fine. I now have "ShootMe!" installed, which allows you to take screen shots of whatever is on the screen by simply shaking the phone. You can also use "PicMe!" to access your phone via wifi from you PC via the web browser.....and capture pics to the PC. Root access can also make wifi tethering to your phone possible if it doesn't already support it.

I've also use used z4root on my Samsung Galaxy S. It worked fine on that phone too.

z4root is in the Android Market. It's free. READ ANY INSTRUCTIONS! It may not work on EVERY kind of Android phone. But I've used it on my two and it worked perfectly on both. Usually the worst that happens is it simply fails to get root access. :-)

Written for users of all levels....hope no one thinks I'm being patronising.... :-)

Cheers for that confirmation Steve, so this means, the root process with this app takes place all on the phone with no PC required?

That is correct. You install the app. Start it up and touch "root". It attempts to use an exploit to gain root access...and if it succeeds.....job done and the phone re-boots rooted.

It has succeeded on both my phones. No PC required.

I used this on my new HTC Magic to get root, so I can flash the recovery image then from recovery got rid of that blimmin' perfected SPL.

It was a handy app, got me to the point of installing Cyanogenmod on my phone :)
