Looked at the phone and saw there was an update available. It's a two part update so clicked Update and the phone rebooted and on restart showed the little Android guy for a bit before presenting the usual Android main screen. Then after a minute another message saying Update available (the second part I guess) and it went through the process again.

After all that I now have FRG83D but there doesn't seem to be any visible difference between that and the previous release. Rumour has it that this prepares the phone for Gingerbread so maybe it's wait and see time.

Yeah, I got that one earlier today. Nothing noticeable so I didn't mention it; seems to just be little bugfixes.

Nothing for the HTC Desire as of yet!

(slightly off-topic; but do rooted phones get OTA updates? I'm not running a custom ROM)

I got mine this morning too.  Only noticed one thing different - my Exchange email account had been deleted - emails and all it seems, I have to set it up again but don't have the details on me.  Luckily I don't use that account very often, it's only for the occasional email for a company I contract to.  Mind you I usually end up killing the Email app because it churns through my battery in a couple of hours flat when not on Wifi - some strange sync bug, hopefully that's been fixed.

Apparently the Email (not GMail) app has been updated, along with Market and various other bits and pieces.  Gingerbread still has to wait.

As usual for me it broke Swype so I had to remove it and install it again. Exchange is okay for me.

If your phone is running stock ROM that has been rooted, AND you still have the stock recovery on it, you should get the update...and will probably lose root access when it installs. You may then re-root the phone.

This is how it can work. Not saying this is how it certainly will work. :-)

Hi guys,

I assume you are running stock N1's and not the Vodafone N1's.
It appears we are still waiting for vf to allow the previous update, can someone confirm this?

Mine's direct from Google. It's an 850 MHz (Telecom) model.
