Mine is starting to act up, although still works and I've only had the phone for 2 months now.  Anyone else experiencing these problems?  It is all over the internet but never thought it would be this soon.

Two Nexus One phones used here. My daughter still has hers. No issues with power buttons so far. They were both purchased online in June from Google.

(Just two data points for you.....)

One here purchased in Jan from Google. Power button is working fine. Not sure if it's relevant but the phone has been in a case all the time so the button has never been directly pressed - always by pressing the silicone case which rests against the button.

But since the power button is used for so many functions it is a part that can fail and as noted by the OP, has been reported as such.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

The problem comes from the design fault of the N1 where the power button is located on a small circuit board and connects to the main phone board using an L shaped ribbon cable. Every time you push the power button, the ribbon cable twitches and eventually the connectors in the cable start to play up or break.

See here for pic:http://mphonenews.com/manage-a-nexus-one-with-broken-power-button-updated/

I have now stopped using this button, by using the NoLock app (can now use Trackball or volume rocker to unlock) and the lock widget that lets me lock by long press on the search button.

A good reason to install a custom ROM and use the trackball wake function. I believe there is an app that does much the same though.
