Does anyone know much about this tablet? Someone mentioned in another thread that it's the Haipad 701. Is that correct?

They have it for a pretty good price in the sale tonight...

Well going by the retail box, I'd have to question that.

I've just come from the Penrose store and although I couldn't get near the tablets to get a good look (too many lolly-gaggers), I did see the boxes and they are not the same as what google shows as the 701 packaging.

It could just be rebranded sure, but I'd want to be certain before ordering one.

Does 2 touch mean its multitouch? No chance that would then mean its capacitive I suppose...

Pinch to zoom I think.

There is like only one 7" capacitive (china) MID and I don't even know if its in the supply chain yet.
What Pb are selling certainly won't be.

Instead of the old aPad box, did it have the new ePad logo on it?  With an older IE browser E logo and an android 2.1 on the base?

if so, it's the Hiapad 701 again rearing it's head with the new Telechip 650-800mhz processor.  Unfortunately resistive and definitely not multitouch.  If PBTech are sellling any for that price, they are making an almost 2.5X Markup on what they paid :)

Also by stating this:
3G    Support Vodafone 3G Vodem

For $350 you are better off getting an eMachine 10.1" Netbook from Noel Leemings for $361 after cash back, then getting  10.1" Touchscreen overlay from Ebay $40, remove LCD, flip the screen, remove keyboard, put LCD where keyboard used to and make a custom tablet ;)

Or go on Trademe find an EEE 7 for $150, get a touchscreen overlay from ebay, some bondo and make a 7" Tablet, then load Android on

It could have been the old Apad now that I think about it. If so, then I hope there is more stock out back for anyone going there. What was on the floor is probably just the old model as they had a fair few boxes.

I had a play with one of these about a month ago. I found it unresponsive and laggy. The display gives the impression of a budget gadget, which after all, it is. You get what you pay for....

I have one. It's the M701-R.

Out of the box firmware is pretty awful. There are several official firmware updates to choose from that improve performance vastly. There's also an early 2.2 release out that is buggy as hell - and a non-official 2.2 release thats ok.

The display is default set to 20% brightness as well (for those that played with demo units). Turn the brightness up and it's wayyyy better.

My biggest beef with it is that it doesn't charge off USB (like many of these tablets). It does have a reasonable battery life (3-4 hours) but for me I need to recharge, so I end up chucking the charger in my laptop bag everyday. That part really sucks.

What I've learn't from the apad ... I really want built in GPS, accelerometers, and bluetooth. The 3G support is pretty crap (doesn't work with my vodem despite their 3G ready advert), I emailed pbtech asking about this and they never replied.

Something like a huawei s7 or aigo n700 is on my xmas wishlist now. I'll probably flick the Apad on trademe before xmas.

How to spot the Heiner Haipad

Thats not to say that the old packaging isn't still out there with the genuine Haipad (and that could very well be what PB are selling), but it seems certain that there are many clones out there trading on the Haipad's reputation.

Mine looks the same bar the case is silver not black (everything else is in the same place). The pbtech ones are M701-R <- R denoting they include an IR remote control. The remote works with media playback and I tried it with Documents 2 Go's PPT playback - it worked fine.

Yeah the remote model is a genuine Haipad. Its the non-remote model that you have to be wary of.

Has anybody used the original aPad (not the aPad II) from PBTech?

Is going right now for $159 and will be even cheaper tomorrow but I wonder how capable it is?

Though I'll not be using it for much, just to browse the web and read ebooks in bed. (which is what I use my iPod Touch for now, but I'd like a bigger screen and better tabbed browsing)

Well, I purchased the APad this morning from PBTech... JUST! :o

Was out late on Saturday night so set my alarm for only a few hours sleep to make sure I'd be there early.

I arrive ten minutes early (as I started up the stairs I saw a lady leaving with one in a bag already!), only to find they're all gone! Boy I was I annoyed but kept calm and my eyes peeled, saw a customer put one down... so I pounced on it! YUSS!

Now ten hours from now it will be fully charged and I can turn it on(or at least I think that is what the instructions say, they're written in "engrish"), almost can't wait ;) Then I'll write up with it my impression of the device.

After playing around with it for a few hours I'm still very happy with it :)

But tomorrow I'll have to look up how to fix various things I screwed up:

I downloaded the most recent FB app which replaced the old one and now I can't access FB!!

How do I have more than one google account associated with a device? Or at least sign out of the current one so I can use another!

How do I save apps to the memory card instead of the phone itself? And exactly the same question again for how to save files from a webpage to the memory card?
