Firstly, I'm not sure if this is a Vodafone or Android problem, so yeah.

I have a Samsung Galaxy 850 (actually it's technically i5800) purchased from store (i.e. not parallel imported)

No matter what I do, APNdroid does not seem to disable mobile data correctly.  I leave the house and it'll carry on connecting to 2G/3G data.  Even changing the 'disable all APN's' has no affect.

I do have a couple of widgets that are internet based, but I'd like to keep them running if at all possible.

The two APN's I have set are VFNZ Internet, which has been renamed to www.vodafone.net.nzapnandorid.  There is also VFNZ Pxt which is still at live.vodafone.com.  The green dot is in the top one.

Any suggestions?  Is there a hidden APN somewhere or something?

Not sure why you would need to question if its a Vodafone issue.

The mobile data network is meant to provide data to your handset so that is working as designed

What options do you have under Settings > Wireless and Network

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Maybe your problem is the widgets?
As it might find any updates on the internet.
Disable the widgets and see if it does download/use any data

Restore the data to on, go to the market and your downloads, choose APNdroid and select uninstall.

Search for DataSwitch (free) and install it. Once installed, tap the icon to toggle all data on and off. Works for me where APNdroid didn't. It's now permanently on my home screen.

John - correct, I want to be able to control when my phone uses mobile data, which is why I ask.

ArtooDetoo - thanks for the suggestion, will try it now.

:edit:  Dataswitch does the job perfectly, thanks!!

No worries. APNdroid appears to be a little overrated, but since it works for most, it has its place. DataSwitch will catch on once the word gets out.

Enjoy.

Hi,

See if you can do the following:
Settings => Wireless & Networks =>Mobile Networks
Is there a "Data enabled" CheckboxPreference?

If so you can uncheck this to turn off 2G/3G data.

This works for me and I use it often. I'd like to make a widget for it some day when I have more time.

Cheers,
Julius.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I think  there are already several widgets for it....and BetterCut and AnyCut (IIRC) apps let you make your own.

If you run the Power Control widget it has a button on the bar that disables data with one touch (looks like an up arrow next to a down arrow). It is probably the best solution as it also has the ability to enable/disable Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, Synchronizing, brightness, 3G, Lock Screen Orientation amongst a whole lot else with a single touch.
