Does anyone know, why, when I use the android market-place app on my phone, certain apps wont show up? Teevoid and Google Goggles to name a couple?
Is this because my phone is a samsung, or is it because its running 2.1 ?

I have heard there is a problem with GPS with some Galaxy models?
Is it supposed to be an issue with this model (i550) ?

I downloaded the "My tracks" app, but I could not lock onto ANY satellites.
A few days Iater I downloaded the "GPS status" app, and low and behold, there were satellites everywhere.
Now I start that first, and My tracks then is able to lock in too. I am very impressed with the resolution on it.

This is my first android phone so here are my thoughts on it.

A good size (for carrying about) - but screen is prolly too small
Great sound - but volume knobs poorly placed, low on the left.
Compatibility with OSes, good with Linux Mint and (some) XP, but can only access SD card. Kies package for uploading stuff is very marginal.
Nice looks (in my view)
Capacitive, but not multi-touch, very very sensitive, too senstive for my fat fingers.
Comes with swype, which is great, until you try to demo it to someone and you suck, too hard on a tiny 2.8 inch screen.
Speed, it seems very fast to me.

Current apps:
Barcode scanner
Handcent SMS
BBS News
Thinkfree office lite
Angry birds
Facebook
Advanced app killer
witiz weather. average.
GPS status. Very good.
My tracks. Initially flakey, but working now after an update and the addition of GPS status.
Alarm droid... this can be a mofo to set the actual time. Controls unresponsive.
Delicious app. Essential.
ConnectBot (terminal client) it works.
Rings extended (ring tone tweaker)

Cheers
jeff

The most likely reason that some apps aren't showing up is because they don't support the resolution of your phone. If i'm right the i550 has a 240x400 which is classed as ldpi. Android app developers have to specify which types of devices they support out of ldpi, mdpi and hdpi and only the supported devices can see that app on the market. for more information about the resolutions:

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Aaah yes, that seems feasible.
