I had settled on the i5503T from Telecom as a gift currently for $299.  Then in the post tonight a couple of stores had what looks like the same phone (cheaper) but listed only as i5503 (no "T" on the end)

Looking on-line it appears that the i5503T runs 2.1 while the i5503 only 2.0   The only other difference I can see is the i5503 has swype txt (ala the galaxy S) but the "T" model apparently doesn't?

The i5503 had a couple of known faults with freezing and wi-fi.  Perhaps the "T" model release fixed that?

I thought I had made the decision but the chance to get pretty much the same thing for a bit less $$$ has me interested and confused again.

The shop sales people while they try don't seem to know their product these days.

T model will be made especially for Telecom (well, not them, but carriers who use those Cell frequency that Telecom uses). Just like Galaxy S comes in I9000 and I9000T.

Thanks, I had assumed that might be the case.  Any thoughts as to which one would be better?  I am a little reluctant to get a 2.0 model (if that is actually the case) but am keen to save some $$$ if I can

If you want to use it on XT, then you need to get the T version as it will support UMTS/WCDMA on the 850MHz band which is a requirement to operate nationwide on XT. The other model is unlikely to have this band (I'm assuming 900MHz UMTS/WCDMA instead). Both support 2100MHz.

Both are advertised as XT mobiles.  The "T" model from the Telecom store and the other from Bond & Bond and Noel Leeming, so no parallel importing or anything like that.

Something isn't adding up here, Noel Leemings and Bond & Bond along with any other Telecom retailer will only sell the one Telecom model. Telecom don't have two versions of that phone, and none operating Android 2.0.

Caveat emptor.

I would also look at the Motorola Flip-out if your budget extends.

Cheers.  Yes the Motorolla looks cool but only runs on 1.6...not sure thats an issue but I also just can't get past the flip-out being just a gimick (IMO)

Confirmed today that the Samsungs are in fact one and the same.  The differences come from bad proof reading of advertisements and salespeople that don't have a clue what they are selling.  When I asked to see the box...sure enough i5503T on the front!

So in the end saved myself $50 and brought one from B&B rather than the Telecom store.

Had 3 salespeople tell me today it was only ver 1.6... oh well decision made, thanks for your input.

Yes, they are all the same and all running 2.1, the advertised "2.0" appears to be a typo.  I rang the Telecom store back to see if they were dropping the price or were interested in price-matching but they didn't seem to care less they were more expensive than the other retailers.

If your interested B&B have then for $250 including sim, and Noel Leeming for $270 including sim and car charger.  Telecom are $299 including sim

Been looking at this,
They currently sell this phone at DSE for $ 239 including SIM

Question:

1. Will i be able to use my vodafone sim card AND use the voda 3G ?

2. Will i be able to sell the sim card included ?

3. Does the 850 band for 3G mean that if i go to countries like the US i can use their 3G ?

1. yes but only the 2100 3g not 3g extended - (remember to put in the vodafone APN settings)

2. yes

3. yes - the phones unlocked so no worries AT&T have an 850 network
