Hi..
Just got the Vodafone 845 for my wife. Set up the wi-fi which works great for surfing at home and getting/sending email, but she'd also like to try to use skype. Went to the market, but for the life of me, after following all the prompts, it hangs on the download bar forever... nothing ever downloads, even if left on overnight. This happens for all apps I try to download. I've searched the net and others have suggested logging into italk/gmail but as far as I can see they are all logged in.

Anyone else experiencing this or have any suggestions/solutions.

Thanks.

Does the issue happen with another SIM card in the handset?

Haven't tried (but will). The existing SIM (simple prepay plan) is probably about 8 years old and was transferred from another phone. I wouldn't have thought that the SIM card would have anything to do with wi-fi use (Internet surfing, email is working fine) and downloading?

Yup, tried that. This was also suggested by other Internet posts.

Got it working. Restored to factory defaults, established the google account and enabled the data service. then it worked fine. Looks like you need data service enabled to do downloads from the market, even if only using wi-fi

My understanding that the the Market uses the unique IMEI of your phone as part of the account setup. Spoofing this manually by gaining root access and editing databases in the Google Apps setup is how people have been able to get the Market to work on the M001 tablets and other non-phone Android devices.

Maybe it can't verify that properly over wifi....and needs to do it via the telco data network at least once. But any actual app downloads will happen over wifi once the account is set up properly.
