Hi, long time reader first time poster


(always wanted to say that)

Just got myself one of the telecom samsung 5503 android phones, love it to bits. It was cheaper than the phone it replaced and all I wanted it for is the GPS run/cycle tracking programs, using the free endomondo one and it's working awesome, runtracker is just as good but won't play music. 

Anyway, I have the network data use on it turned off. I just don't need it as I have wifi at home, and work, and now mc D's so no point in me spending my hard earned $6 or $12 each month (haha), what I'm wondering is has anyone had any joy with a map program being used OFFLINE? There is a couple of free ones I tried (mapdroyd I think was one?) but it was pretty rubbish, didn't actually track me, was just a big image of NZ you could zoom in & out of. 

Has anyone got a way to have the phone cache google maps for example? I only need chch, if I was to go away then I'd just save a map for where I was going.

Surely there's something out there - just a simple street map, with a search function, and tied into the GPS already in the phone?
