There are a few things which puzzle me about android. they are as follows

Vodafone 845

1. I want to set a wallpaper, (of my baby girl) as my background on my home screen. i dont want it to be stretched over 7 screens, i dont want to just have it zoomed in so i can see one of her eyeballs, just nice simple wallpaper. I dont want to have to pay for an application to resize it. My Nokia 6225 could have custom walpapers. My 3650 from years ago could do them. pretty much every  series 40 phone can do it. even $49 budget things can do it. It the sort of thing that android should handle. Hell, even Windows 95 had a "Tile Wallpaper" option so wtf do i do to set this 320x240 pic as my wallpaper?

2. Applications should have an exit option, not just minimize.
3. Is there a way to set up folders with my applications in them, instead of a giant list of stuff? I.e. Can i have games, Utils, Web, etc and have all my apps arranged in there?
4. Why is something as simple as having the weather clock having the correct time such a flippin hard thing to do?

Otherwise, i am really loving it, and i totally think android rocks!!

1. The way android operates is like one long home screen but you only get to see fractions of it at one time. You could use a launcher replacement to lower the number of default screens to allow more of your picture to to be seen on the main screen. If you are savvy with photoshop you could alter your image to stretch over the width required so the main portion of your image is based on the main screen.

2. Custom ROM's have various close options, or you can run an app manager which will allow you easier access to the (force)close option. These can also be set to close all managed apps at certain time intervals but this can be hazardous.

3. Folders are do-able. Long press on the blank screen space and the option to add a folder should be there. Then open the folder and a long press on the folder name will pop up the editor for renaming.

4. Nothing is simple when you have so much customization, there are simpler apps out there but they'll be missing functionality you're likely wanting.

Note: It might feel bad paying for apps that you feel should have been integrated into the release of android but that's what android is about, splitting things up and sharing the responsibility to allow such a gamut of variation. I've spent more in apps over my phones than games to play on the PS3 and PC combined in the last couple of years and couldn't be happier.

p.s. i'm by no means an android pro, the above info might not be quite right but will be close enough for you to figure out what i mean heh.

should be an option to lock the wallpaper so it doesnt move. funny i saw it today and cant remember where it is.. ill have a nosey. not sure about the tiling option though unfortunately, could be an app that does it maybe.

instead of having a folder.. use the home screens to add shortcuts to your fav games, utilities etc. eg i have one home screen that has all the multimedia stuff, eg gallery, video and audio players, youtube, gallerry etc. Another home screen has shortcuts to all of my games, another homepage has all my fav webpages etc.

as far as applications exiting, good point, though, android is quite good at managing memory/applications. I sometimes forget i have multiple apps running long after they've "closed". Doesnt seem to affect any operations on the phone later.

weather clock, not sure about that one, mine is always accurate regardless.

2. The Android system will automatically manage system resources so there's no need for you to close them. If you want to force close applications, you can do that on a Cyanogen rom by holding down the back key.

I don't have your phone so not sure my advice is of help.

1. I know that the wallpaper in my phone has to be a particular size.  I'm not sure if that's the case with your phone.  Have you had a look on the XDA forums for your particular phone to see if there's someone there that might have the answer?
2. My phone (Samsung Galaxy S) has a return button that closes the app.  And if you hold the home button the task manager appears and shows recent applications.  So the close app appears in that list too.
3. Have a look at this app on appbrain.  It's a file manager and you can create folders on your desktop.  Launcher Pro (donate version) allows you to create a folder and drop apps into them.  Astro allows you to shortcut to a folder, so you could create your own folders in your phone and then shortcut to those.
4. What weather clock to you use?  I used to use snowstorm and never had a problem with it having the correct time.

Good luck, and your daughter is very cute!  (I'm not a dirty old man - I'm a woman ;-))
