I was just wondering if some of you have already experienced this bug, or if it's pure hype, like with Apple's Antennagate?

From geek.com:

"What’s exactly happening? Well, the recipient of an SMS or MMS is being randomly replaced with a different entity from the contact list in the official Android Messaging application. The worst part is it isn’t always happening before the message is sent, but sometimes only shows the switch when your text message is already shooting off into the ether.

Making matters worse, no one can quite figure out how to reproduce the problem, and the only solution is to delete conversation threads when you’re done reading them."

Yeah, saw the write up but have never experienced it myself on my N1, either through stock or custom ROM's. Didn't even know the problem existed before last weeks read to be honest.

Never in my 2 years of using Android have I experienced this issue, it's hype, possibly created by a drunk Apple Fanboy trying to use a Android Phone (and wanting something to moan about)

Don't you mean can't use (against their religion) Laughing.  Anyhow, at least my phone alarm woke me at the correct time on New Years Day...

I am sure you are right the fanboy mentality covers all of these them and us scenarios such as Apple/Micosoft, Ford/Holden etc. Me, I am a Microsoft user but I find the IP4 just great.

I don't have an Android yet, but am hoping for a new phone for my birthday. As such I've been investigating whether I want to do the 'droid or iPhone it in. As a result, I've been paying a bit of attention to this issue. According to a blog post on AndroidGuys, the bug may be triggered by receiving SMS messages where the sender has an email address (e.g sent via email SMS gateways). The theory is this may be corrupting the SQLite DB used by the SMS app.

I have an ex-workmate in the USA who has a Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate), and he was being sent SMS alerts via email whenever our systems reported there may be an issue which may require investigation. He said he's never experienced this bug, but also conceded that he's not a heavy SMS user.

I have a Milestone and this happened to me last night for the first time. SMS was intended for the girlfriend but instead went to my mate sitting next to me at the time. Only my girlfriend was listed in the message thread was very weird. I did txt my mate an hour before hand but his thread was deleted.

Now, excuse me while I laugh here, but your comment is the one that sounds like fanboyism (actually a gratuitous attack out of hand)...

Google acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix

I've had this problem on a HTC Desire before the last firmware upgrade. Luckily it wasn't too embarrassing!

"It took us some time to reproduce this issue, as it appears that it's only occurring very rarely"

Hence you're not seeing the issue.
