I am running Teevoid - faster on the couch for browsing for programs than the EPG on my Freeview DVR, but there seems to be very little in the way of New Zealand oriented Android apps.

Would love to see a decent app for Trademe among others.

What NZ-centric apps do you run on Android?

I know some people are writing Geekzone apps for Android, using the experimental Geekzone API ;)

Yeah! I use the browser so rarely on this that it seems overkill to use it solely for Geekzone. ^_^

NZ weather is a good app. It downloads the 3 day rain forecast for NZ. A bit iffy but after a force close when first installing it seems to behave itself.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

A Geekzone app would be great as the site doesn't run very well on a mobile browser, especially writing posts.

There are a few apps being built, but the API v1.0 is for reading only - posting is still from the browser.

Are you using the m.geekzone.co.nz on your browser?

Also note that even if you use the full site on the browser it should work ok - and fast. We don't load ads or the rich text editor when the main site is loaded on a mobile browser.

I've been using NZWeather and NZ events. I've had a few problems with NZWeather, there doesn't seem any way to scroll through the weather maps unless I use the image gallery which isn't very user friendly. Events guide is pretty good, useful for planning activities for the kids!

We do seem to be short of good NZ apps ... a really good weather app would be fantastic. I'm using Weatherbug at the moment and its okay but the temps often seem wrong.

What I found with weatherbug is you need to check what weather station is being polled to get the data for a particular location.  For instance for Hamilton the default setting is Auckland Airport and the next nearest is an automated station in Taupo!

NZ apps I use include NZ Tides and Air New Zealand MPass.

I've been using teevoid too, although when I'm on my home network I can get the guide from mythtv's scheduler in mythdroid, only other NZ related apps I have installed are are

Wellington Transit - admittedly the only real use for this is seeing the next few buses at the stop nearest your location, the public transport directions in google maps generally does a better job for everything else.

mPass - I was in a hurry and didn't actually get a chance to try this when I was at the airport, but I have my suspicions it won't work on any phone with an OLED screen (which is a good proportion of them these days) as I believe they're using the reflective property of the LCD and a laser to read it.

mPass on Android is far better than it was as a simple QR code e-ticket on my E71. Now it also lets you get see real-time arrival/departure info by flight or airport

Hi Tony,

I have written 3 NZ related apps for Android.

1) TradeDroid (TradeMe app that uses new TradeMe API)
2) NZ Events (uses eventfinder.co.nz API)
3) TraxIt (parcel tracking that uses nzpost API)

I would be very keen to hear your guys feedback and any features that you think are missing. Its good to see Android adoption is picking up speed in NZ.

Cheers

I'm the author of Christchurch Metro, which tracks real-time arrival info for buses in Christchurch and Timaru.  There are actually 2 Christchurch bus
apps, the other is called 'Metro Info Grabber'.  When I first got my device it wasn't available for me in the market, which is why I started writing my
own.

The only other app I'm aware of that hasn't been mentioned already is 'Quick Quake Viewer'.
