Has anybody here got one of those cheap ($150 or so) android (1.6) tablets being sold on trademe?

Yes, I know they are slow (VIA processor) etc, but I'm trying to find out if Fring (or for that matter Skype) works on it, particularly video calling, doesn't matter if it's 1 FPS or whatever... just need to know ifworks at all.

My sister in AU wants me to hook my mum up with a way to do video calling between them, but I don't want to land mum with a whole damn PC or Laptop just for that, so thought if Fring functioned on one of those el cheapo tablets, that could do the trick.

The ones for around $150 with android 1.6 don't have a camera in them. not even one for taking pictures let alone video.

Ahh yes my bad, bought mine about 6 months ago and none of them had cameras back then, didn't realise they had come down in price so much. I seem to remember they stock the Apad at pb tech, so maybe you could go in and have a look for yourself.

That said, I now see my quest is moot.

Since Skype killed Fring's interconnect some months ago and Fring has no PC client and I have no intention of buying my sister a tablet too.

I don't think Skype does video on Android.
