A friend if mine is using one of these on AT&T.

He likes the phone and is just waiting impatiently for Froyo.

I did a quick review of the specs and this part is interesting

GSM/GPRS
850/900/1800/1900 MHz

3G
UMTS/HSDPA (850/900/1900/2100 MHz)

Seems like it would work fine on both VF (and 2D) as well as TNZ.

Is this similar to the phone TNZ are selling or a different variant again? It's hard to keep up sometimes.

It will work on all 3 carriers in 3G but according to GSMA

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 which would be normal for AT&T branded fones.. I have a AT&T LG and it works fine on these 3G bands on all carriers in NZ..

So it won't do Voda on 900. OK on 2100 though..

I've been thinking of getting one of these for my wife but I'll wait until they get a bit cheaper as her CDMA fone doesn't get turned off until next year..

I'm typing this reply on one connected to XT now. Very nice phone. If connected to VF you won't be able to connect to their 900 Mhz 3G extended sites, but should be ok in the metro areas

Where did you get yours from? My friend would love to have his upgraded to Froyo but ATT seem to be the slowest of the US carriers to deliver Android updates.

I picked up my Captivate from mobicity.co.nz last year... Before TNZ released their i9000. I still dont think Froyo is released officially yet, but there a plenty of custom Froyo roms on xda-developers forums. I use (and recommend) the Continuum rom from Cezar.

I've seen a lot of people claiming that these work on both Telecom XT and VFNZ, and while that is technically true, they are most definitely better suited to the XT network, given the lack of 900MHz capability.

I have had modem firmware loaded in the Cappy that enables you to activate the 900 band for WCDMA. I haven't tested if it works as there isn't any 900 wcdma signal where I work/live (wellington).

If you get a chance to test it, please post back here. I've heard a lot of mixed messages about whether this can actually be enabled via a firmware flash.

While that's true I have an x AT&T LG that does 3G 850,1900,2100 and have used it on Voda for months with no problems. The only place that I lost 3G and for that matter GSM was a small place call Tehihi about 10 Km west of Papakura south Auckland.. XT and CDMA are fine there. It will be interesting to see if my new Galaxy 8500 works out there in the next few weeks..

I've just got one of these from EKing - http://bit.ly/ghoHz1 for $689.

It came with an unlocked 2.1 firmware image on it with loads of Chinese apps which I promptly upgraded to 2.2 by rolling my own firmware at The Magical Rom Machine.

I have it running on Telecom XT and so far... frickin' awesome!

FYI: For those trying to add the Telecom APN's and not having them save... Turn on\off Flight Mode. Seemed to work for me.
