I find that my HTC Desire meets my requirements at work capably.

There's MS Exchange, so calendar, email & contacts sync is all there. Plenty of widgets for them as well!

I just don't like touch screens or virtual keyboards.

Many Androids phones I see are like that .....

So you're wanting a non-touch-screen Android phone?

There's plenty of Androids out there, a quick Google search should see you right! :-)

The Z looks alright.

But is there one where there are the standard numeric pad under the screen and a slide keyboard or something that looks like a Blackberry Bold?

You understand that Android is a touch based operating system right?

You'd best stick to windows mobile or blackberry then. You'd waste your money on any Android handset if you dont like touch or virtual keyboards.

How much experience have you had with touchscreen keyboards?
after some practice you gain quite a bit of speed and likely won't want to go back to a keypad/keyboard. Many people i know including myself have experienced this.

Never bought a touch screen phone, have tried them thou.  At times I may use it to compose a 200 word email.

Not my style.  I have a Nokia E75 and find the slide a hassle that I need to slide out every time ..   In the past I had a LG Quad Band Colour flip, sold it in a matter of weeks.

No, never occured to me Android was a touch screen OS.  I thought it was another competing open source OS.

Aside, while people talk about apps etc... how much does a average Joe or Jane really use?  I find that in-phone apps are fine for me other than downloading Lonely Planet guides and etc .. and Tetris.

It depends what you like to do on your smartphone. I have over 150 apps. Some are games but I have a lot of utilities such as a video editor, sound editor, streaming radio, twitter, song recognition, shopping helpers, fitness trackers etc

Touchscreens are pretty much the way things are going with smartphones now, you will have to adapt. If you get Swype on Android you can easily learn to type 40wpm so a 200 word email wouldn't be a huge issue.

Swiftkey is also a great solution for typing long emails as it predicts your next words. Scarily accurate! I would beat any hardware keyboard phones in an email. Android O/S does support keyboards, but the phone will always be a touchscreen aswell.

Not really on topic but swiftkey is awesome. I am using it on my phone and the archos tablet I have. I would say that now it is as good as typing on the E71 used to be.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Telecom has several Android phones with physical keyboards, mostly from Motorola. The Backflip, the 'square thing that slides sideways', the Milestone.

You can also get the Sony Ericsson Mini with a physical keyboard - there are two version: one with and one without. That's from Vodafone.

Or check the parallel importers for other options.

There are a good number of Android phones with physical keyboards....have a look around.
