Hey i have an unlocked HTC Aria and want to update the OS to 2.2 using a 3rd party ROM.

Will iinstalling a new ROM cause my phone to become locked again??

No it won't cause it to become locked after you flash a new ROM. The device will be rooted which means you have root access, no chance of it being locked.
